Hundreds of devotees massed at VVT Sivan temple chariot festival

The chariot (‘Ther’ in Tamil) festival of the historic Valvettithurai Sivan temple in Jaffna Peninsula was held today, where hundreds of devotees participated at the event.
Having performed special Pooja in the morning, the Chariots commenced to underway in the long four sides outer roads of the temple at about 1100 hours and reached their destination at about 1130 hours, where special Pooja again took place at the Chariots.
Large number of devotees, including devotees from the adjacent villages, had witnessed this annual festival.
After suffering severe damages to the chariots during the tropical cyclone ‘Nilam’in 2012, new chariots of conventional and modern type were constructed for goddess Ámman’ and Gods “Ganpathi” and “Muruga” and trailed in 2013 during temple’s annual festival.
The last day annual festival of ‘Holy bath” is scheduled to take place tomorrow (04th April 2015) morning at Orani beach.
This famous Siva temple is located at about 500 meter west of VVT junction, along the Point Pedro – KKS road.
It should be noted that the temple belongs to Mr.Thiruvengadam, who is the grand father of Mr.V.Prabaharan, found of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam.
