Sports and athletics have been an integral part of Valvettithurai for years immemorial. Keep up the tradition, Valvai sports club again organized a sports meet on yesterday, as a final day of events of sports which had commenced 2 months ago.
Mr.M.K.Sivajilingam (Member of Northern provincial council) and Mr.G.Velayutham (Founder of Sivan foundation) graced the occasion as the Chief guests.
The event commenced at about 1530 hours with the lighting of auspicious lamp and hoisting of the flag by the chief guests followed by the Torch Relay. The oath was administered by the Valvai Sports officer, after which, the chief guests declared the meet open.
Up next were several athletic events followed by a fancy dress competition.
The events at about 2100 hours suddenly came to end while prize giving was going on, after the death of Mr.Nimalan, who was the former president of Valvai Sports club.
