North east Monsoon brings heavy rain to the Northern part of Srilanka including Vavuniya, kilinochchi and Jaffna Peninsula. The Heavy rain which continues for last few days have battered northern part of Jaffna since morning till afternoon.
The heavy rains which have brought heavy rainfall today in Vadamaradachi forced water from inlands into the drainage system along the Point Pedro - KKS road.
It is said that after long time such a heavy rain is experienced in this area.
The Jaffna Peninsula is most fertile, being irrigated from numerous wells, which are being filled during North east Monsoon from late October till beginning of January.
Department of Meteorology in Srilanka stated in its weather forecast, issued at 1200 noon on 27th November 2014 that Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces and in the Hambanthota district and heavy showers (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places, including the possibility for increasing of wind speed (up to 70 Km/hr) at times over the country and over the sea areas around the island is high.
